Backcountry Dog Etiquette

During a recent ski tour to Table Mountain in the Mount Baker backcountry, three friends and I rescued a lost dog. It was an hour before sunset on a cold December afternoon and there were no other people in sight when we spotted the shorthaired mutt searching for her owners. As the shivering, disoriented animal limped higher up the mountain, away from the parking lot, it became clear that something was wrong. One member of our group, Kirsten, attracted the timid dog with an avocado sandwich. Kirsten phoned the number we found on the dog’s identification tags and was able to get in touch with the owner, who was waiting in the cozy Heather Meadows lodge, about a 30-minute hike from our location. The dog was not able to run…

Not worth the price
I find the adjustments relatively easy to operate and liked the poles, however I have only done two days of hiking, and one of the tips broke out. I did manage to save the tip and epoxied it in, but doubt that it will last long enough to get my money's worth. Attaching the powder baskets is a joke.

Was hoping these would be bombproof
After reading several reviews I was expecting great things from these poles. Unfortunately they did not live up to my expectations. After one short winter hike I have already lost a basket and the retaining pieces on the bottom of the pole are worn down. The retention design is very poor and losing the basket could have easily been prevented with something as simple as duct tape.

Disappointing
For the money I spent on these poles I thought they should have been more effective. While I am able to use the trigger release mechanism with a glove, I couldn't do it with mittens which are my preferred winter hand protection. A person with small or weak hands might have problems activating the trigger release regardless of dress - I recommend trying them out before buying. Also, the very first time I used the poles one of the straps popped off. Luckily I was able to keep all the pieces and reassemble at home. Lastly, in my opinion the baskets pop off far too easily. For reference I'll say I'm an intermediate winter hiker.
