Backcountry Dog Etiquette

During a recent ski tour to Table Mountain in the Mount Baker backcountry, three friends and I rescued a lost dog. It was an hour before sunset on a cold December afternoon and there were no other people in sight when we spotted the shorthaired mutt searching for her owners. As the shivering, disoriented animal limped higher up the mountain, away from the parking lot, it became clear that something was wrong. One member of our group, Kirsten, attracted the timid dog with an avocado sandwich. Kirsten phoned the number we found on the dog’s identification tags and was able to get in touch with the owner, who was waiting in the cozy Heather Meadows lodge, about a 30-minute hike from our location. The dog was not able to run…

Great buy
I bought the Talus TR-3 Trekking Poles for the Rim to Rim hike. I like the adjustability and light weight sturdy construction. The poles are very comfortable in the hands throughout the hike both up hill and down hill. Super happy great poles.

Sturdy and comfortable
Purchased these poles for both their intended purpose and as reliable, positive-locking supports for a tent. My previous poles had cork handles, which I liked a lot, but were locked by twisting, which sometimes became loose. The Talus TR-3 poles have performed admirably since I received them, including during a recent, month-long backpacking trip in New Zealand. The handles, while not cork, never create blisters and I find them extremely comfortable. I tried the quick-release throughout the trip, and it stuck a few times in the very cold. But, using two hands, I was always able to re-adjust. I particularly like the triangular design of the poles' shafts, the positive-locking mechanisms, and the balance of the weight throughout the pole (which seems to have it always swinging forward while hiking).
