What size snowshoes (tails) do I need?
This question is difficult to answer because there are a lot of variables involved in selecting the right length for you. The two biggest factors are snow conditions and your weight, including any pack/gear you may be carrying. It is best to wear the shortest shoe that will still provide you with enough flotation. The shorter the shoe, the easier it is to maneuver. One of the nice things about the Denali Ascent and Denali Classic is that you can purchase a short length – 22 inches – and add optional extension tails as needed. Our snowshoe-sizing chart can help you select the right pair.
What are MSR snowshoes made of?
The platform material of snow-shedding co-polymer is made of polyethylene and polypropylene that is very tough, even in sub-freezing temperatures. The crampons are made of hardened steel that will outlast aluminum five times to one. The Traction Bars are also made of the same hardened steel. The steel is powder coated to prevent snow from sticking.
